    I first sought out help from Denise Herman when I rescued a stray dog in Brooklyn who had a lot of fear and anxiety. Other trainers had failed (or even made things worse) but Denise was calm, persistent, and her training really made a huge difference. We went from not being able to have people come over to our house to hosting regular holiday parties with no issues. It was unbelievable. So much so that a decade later when I adopted a young dog I knew I had to make the trek back to Brooklyn to do my basic puppy training with Denise. This new dog is so well rounded and rock solid, and I attribute so much of that to the philosophies and dog smarts that Denise has. I would definitely recommend.

    Love love love Denise and Empire of the Dog. We reached out as brand new dog parents when our floof Mochi was a puppy, and Im so glad that we did! We learned so much more than what I expected and I walked away feeling confident and in control of our puppy. Denise was always available for extra questions by phone and email if we had difficulty implementing some of the techniques we learned. What I loved most about Denise was that she helped us get to know our dog. She helped us understand what he was telling us with his behavior, and she taught us how to LEAD the dog/human relationship vs the other way around. We now have a well-behaved dog, the humans are in charge, and a lifelong friend in Denise.     Denise and Empire of the Dog have been excellent to work with. Our pup, Turtle, has come a long way with the techniques and training Denise has given us. Whats more, she is totally responsive along the way as new challenges arise. Very thoughtfully checked in with us about Turtles progress and supplied tons of handouts and videosβ€” just generally helpful materials and tips. Shes super passionate and empathetic with new dog owners. We would definitely recommend Denise and Empire of the Dog to any pup parent!

    There are so many positive things to say about Empire of the Dog. Denise is extremely knowledgeable about dogs and dog training. She is also incredibly patient. My dog was exhibiting some very strange behaviors and I was at my wits ends--Denise came up with very workable solutions and within a week his behaviors had improved. One of my favorite things about working with Denise is her willingness to adjust her recommendations based on what, through my feedback, is realistic for me and my dog. She does not just provide cookie cutter solutions but instead takes the time to tailor training to the client. My dog is also crazy about her! I will definetely continue working with Empire of the dog and highly highly recommend Denise.

    Denise is absolutely FANTASTIC as is her staff. She is the ONLY person I leave my dog with overnight. I went to Denise when Goose was a puppy to get her first training, and then came back to her when she was 6 for behavior modification. In just an hour, she taught me (mostly me, also Goose) skills for modifying her behavior--and I never even had to raise my voice at ALL. Positive reinforcement works when its done right, and Denise taught me how to give my dog what she needed to feel comfortable and to behave well. I trust her with my dogs life, and I dont say that lightly. Woofs!

    Denise was so wonderful in helping us work with our rescue dog, Kate! Kate was super anxious at first and reacted poorly to dogs on leash, but Denise helped us communicate with her and show her how to be a part of our family. Kate is absolutely a different dog today, so confident and spunky! Denise is also very connected to the community so she was able to help us find other resources for Kate such as day care, walkers and boarding. Denise really knows her stuff and is obviously so in love with pups - cant thank her enough!

    Denise has enriched the joy of adopting a dog during the pandemic! I am forever grateful. We adopted a dog from TX that we did not know much about. The dog is very sweet but was too timid to even go outside in Brooklyn. Denise helped us move beyond where our pup grew from timid to mischievous....and Denise was there to help us with that also. She has been graciously available for help even after our contracted time was up. We have enjoyed our pup even more than we could hope because of Denises help!!

    Weve had a couple sessions with Denise, one when we first rescued our dog. She taught us all the essential skills to speak his language. He had some barrier frustration and leash reactivity. Denise taught us how to regulate his energy via mentally stimulating activities such as chews, or even feeding our little genius in puzzle balls or other fillable toys. That immediately chilled out our dog and gave him safe activities to redirect his energies into. As we learned to communicate better with each other, he went from a rascally rescue to a pretty well trained pup! We went back to Denise to start working on some advanced moves in his training such as targeting and higher level free shaping. Pretty soon this little man is gonna be bringing us breakfast in bed! We trust Denise with our dog when we leave town and she always answers our questions about behavior and training (sorry for the novel length emails!) I know we always have somewhere to go for any issues that arise with our dog.

    Denise is truly wonderful. My dog Sesame was biting, barking and peeing in the house when I first adopted her, because of anxiety. After 1 lesson I learned how to relate to Sesame in a whole new way. How to use treats and positive reinforcement to reward her for good behavior and change her ways. She literally stopped peeing in the house after her FIRST lesson. After 2 lessons Sesame was doing tricks and learning new commands. I have so much more confidance in how I relate to her and clearly Sesame loves the attention and stimulation.Id like to use Denise for as long as I possibly can! The information is endless. Not to mention she leaves detailed notes to study and remind me of what we worked on. All in all, Id give 10 stars if I could. Its been a positive, excellent experience working with Denise.

    Thank you Denise for your honesty and authenticity. Throughout many months of researching and talking to different trainers, your methods were the only ones that worked!! My dog was highly reactive and unpredictable, now he is much more comfortable, communicative, and predictable. The rationale just makes sense. Thank you for helping us!

    Denise transformed our little dog, Quill in a few hours. Initially he would bite, pee in the house, sometimes chew things up, and behaved impulsively.She taught us how to best communicate with him, work on his impulse control, and train him to walk cooperatively. We even learned how to teach him to do any trick.10/10 would recommend. A must for any new dog owner.

    I LOVE EMPIRE OF THE DOG! i brought my boxer puppy here for 3 classes and loved every single one. i am an experienced pet owner who was blown away at Denise and her GENIUS. sometimes it was like she was waving a magic wand and my dog would do anything she wanted. i have recommended her for group and private classes to many friends and will go back with all of my future puppies. She is calm and assertive and knows her stuff. i owe her so much for bringing out the smart dog that was hidden in my over energized puppy.

    Denise and her team have been helping my 3 year old staffie since he was moths old! I always get compliments on how well behaved he is and a lot of that is definitely thanks to puppy class at empire of the dog. Highly recommended. All positive reinforcement techniques. So friendly and great!
