Melanie was absolutely wonderful in helping us work on separation anxiety and sound sensitivity with our puppy, Hudson. She helped us get to the bottom of his GI issues, advocated for us at the vet, and was always willing to listen and give advice on situations during our sessions and via text. We would absolutely recommend her and CCA as a whole to anyone working through difficult behaviors with their dog. -

I highly recommend Calm Canine Academy. I just finished Feisty Fido with Lauren and it was so helpful. I appreciate the live group classes to share our realities with other dog parents. The material is clear and the follow up for the exercices and questions is really complete. I learn a lot, the tools will help me and my dog for long term. Iām going to miss these classes! Thank you Lauren! -

Cannot recommend highly enough - the Feisty Fido online group training course with Lauren has been life-changing for me and my sensitive dog. The structured approach really helps you set goals and build consistent progress using proven, force-free techniques, and you have constant support from your trainer. Lauren is professional, kind, and really took the time to get to know me and my dog, tailoring her experience to our unique challenges and helping us get some great results. We will definitely be looking at more CCA training in the future - thank you Lauren! -

Iām so glad we signed up for Separation Anxiety training with Calm Canine Academy. I didnāt know if there was hope for our 4 year old rescue, but heās made such great progress. The format of the training worked really well for us - held us accountable, gave us very specific steps to follow, gave us feedback and we had a weekly zoom lesson. I highly recommend them for desentization training! -

We took the separation anxiety course. Trainers here are top notch and behavioral experts. We didnāt have much expectation of online course, however tools that trainers equipped us with are so useful! Our dog who couldnāt stay alone for even 20 minutes, now sleeps for an hour. We still have a long way to go but if we continue to follow the given roadmap, I am sure, we will reach the desired alone time soon. -

Im finishing up Feisty Fido with Lauren and cant say enough good about the course and trainer. My sheltie and I have worked with so many trainers but struggled to make real progress on her complex reactivity and sound sensitivity. Lauren is incredibly knowledgeable, supportive, and professional. The holistic approach to CCA is highly effective, tailors the class to each dog, and is designed to set you up for long term success. It has improved my relationship with my dog and set us on a wonderful path. And the course was very well planned and executed - the best virtual course set up I have seen, by far. CCA is the best! -

My dog and I have completed Feisty Fido with Karishma as well as some private coaching with Grace. Both trainers have been massively helpful with helping our anxious dog feel more comfortable! Graces medical insight in particular has been instrumental in helping us know what to talk to our veterinarian about in order to get to the bottom of our pups underlying health issues. I recommend CCA to anyone I know who needs help with an anxious dog! -

I attended Calm Canine Academyās Feisty Fido class led by the highly knowledgeable Lauren. I have a one-year-old pup who has struggled with reactivity and anxiety since we brought him home. I had enrolled my pup in 2-3 other training courses before and never saw much improvement other than him learning a few basic commands. Even with those courses, I always felt like a piece of the puzzle was missing. I knew how intelligent my dog was, but none of the physical and mental activities I was doing with him were helping with how much of the day he spent āon edge.ā I was starting to lose hope of my pup ever getting the help I knew he needed, and it was beginning to affect my mental health. For the first time, I feel like my dog and I are speaking the same language, and I have become more compassionate and in tune with my dogās emotions. After addressing my dogās health issues and with the help of the Feisty Fido course, we are finally making progress, and my dog seems much happier because of it.I highly recommend this course to any pet parent who is feeling lost, discouraged, and stressed. I will be forever grateful to Lauren and everyone at Calm Canine Academy for allowing me to have a better relationship with my dog! -

We came to Calm Canine desperate to help our anxious pup stay with our family (we have little kids). Melanie was absolutely amazing, very knowledgeable and supported me every step of the way. She figured out what our dog needed, from vet letters, to med changes, to training, to activities to safely involve the kids. She helped us keep our sweet boy and we will always be grateful. Thank you!! -

My sweet sensitive girl was dog reactive with a history of dog aggression and resource guarding when I started with CCA. Adolescence hit her hard. With Ingrid, I discovered underlying health issues, managed her anxiety, and even started to help her safely make some dog friends m. CCA helped give my girl her life back, and we couldnāt be happier. Itās beautiful to see the dog that she has become. Thank you Ingrid for being on our team ā¤ļø -

I canāt recommend CCA and our dog behaviourist Lauren enough! Sheās been absolutely amazing with our dog Cooper helping us with his separation anxiety. Itās a long healing process but the results weāve achieved within just 3 months are so promising and gave us hope! Lauren helped us putting all the pieces together, explained lots of different sides of this complex problem and most importantly - was always willing to answer all of our questions. Weāre now considering signing up for her one2one sessions.Thank you! -

My partner and I took the separation anxiety course with Lauren and we had a very positive experience. Our dog Willow has struggled with SA since she was about 8 months old. Weāve worked with another trainer for 6 months and didnāt get very far. Weāve seen more progress working with Lauren over the last 12 weeks than we did in the previous 6 months of training! The program is very well designed, Lauren is a very knowledgeable and compassionate trainer and we are really happy that we made the investment. Highly recommend for anyone whoās struggling with their dogās SA. -
Review 13 (2024-09-05 - Rating: 5)
Our virtual sessions with Ingrid completely changed how my dog interacts with others. Before beginning with CCA, my dog could barely walk past other dogs without lunging and attempting to bite - now, she is able to go past most dogs with no incident. This is all due to Ingrids gentle and compassionate approach to dog training, which helped not only my dog but helped me reframe my approach to working on her issues. Cant recommend CCA enough!! -

I cannot recommend them anymore!! I have been working with Calm Canine on some issues I have had with my dog on Zoom and Nicole is by far the best trainer I have ever worked with. She got to the root cause of the issues and explained them to me clearly. Then wrote a plan, which she sent to me to follow for my dog training issues. My dog has now finally stopped peeing in the house and I am over the moon!!! -

I am nearing the end of the Feisty Fido course with my very anxious dog Maisie. Lauren has been patient, kind and encouraging throughout and has lots of helpful tips for all kinds of issues.Karishmas content addresses a variety of triggers and underlying issues with lots of example videos to help you learn. I particularly recommend this course if you suspect underlying health problems with your dog as your coach will have a lot of insight on this. The course includes loads of resources which you can keep accessing after the course. In some ways, I found the group coaching difficult because our dog is so sensitive she needs a slower pace than the others and it can be hard to compare your progress to others, but it was also really lovely to speak to people around the world finding having a dog hard - it often felt like therapy for me, even more so than for our dog. I have also learnt things that will be helpful forever, not just during the course. Private coaching is also available though which I would consider in the future. I recommend checking out their website for free resources to get you started.Thank you for your help CCA! -

Lauren is a gem ! She understood my very fearful dog. I owe her so much. Would highly recommend ! She really follows the rythm of the dog. Itās healing for the dog and the human guardian. For context, my dog was adopted from the street of Mexico and she is highly anxious. Thanks for your kindness and expertise -

I signed up for private coaching with Calm Canine Academy to help my fearful, anxious, stranger reactive dog. We worked with Ingrid and have learned so much. Ingrid is amazing and so knowledgeable. My dog is so much happier now and our lives are infinitely less stressful. We have had our set backs and struggles but Ingrid was always supportive and encouraging and knew exactly what to do. The virtual format is perfect for reactive dogs, allowing them to be comfortable while Ingrid was still able to see our home and could tailor our plan to fit the challenges of our environment. I was initially worried about scheduling sessions around my work schedule but CCA made it so easy and convenient.100% recommend Calm Canine Academy! Best decision Iāve made to help my little guy was choosing CCA. -

We had a wonderful experience working with Ingrid as our trainer through Calm Canine Academy. She was super supportive throughout our training, gave us so much helpful guidance, and really helped us feel empowered and informed on how to best care for our dog. She also went above and beyond to steer us through our dogs many medical problems and help us advocate for our dogs needs with our vet. Plus, it was so easy to work with the whole Calm Canine team on scheduling. Highly recommend the whole experience! -

Through virtual sessions and consultation and follow ups on WhatsApp between sessions, Namita gave us amazing tools that majorly improved our reactive dog Sarahās ability to cope and recover in a busy city environment. She also helped us solve reactivity in the car which is now nearly 100% resolved - and a huge impact on our quality time together. We learned so much from Namita and her expertise was instrumental to Sarahās progress (and ourās) -

Namita and the whole team at Calm Canine have been amazing! I was so stressed with my dogs reactivity to the door, her scavenging which has caused many emergency vet trips and overall fear and anxiety. I was lost at what to do next, but after following calm canine on Instagram and loving their ethos and approach to supporting dogs and their guardians I decided to reach out to help, the best decision we have made!Namita helped us understand some of the reasons why we might be seeing this behaviour, helped us rethink our approaches to certain situations and gave us the confidence to really help us turn a corner. The detailed videos and support were amazing and the contact throughout the whole process was invaluable. We still have a little way to go but she has come on leaps and bounds in a few months, thereās hardly any reactivity to the door, the scavenging is almost at zero (some things are just to tempting not to pick up) when it does happen we can easily get back whatever sheās picked up and her confidence in new situations/environments is so much better. We used to dread walks and having to go anywhere with her because it was so stressful for her and for us but slowly this has become fun and something we all look forward to. Thank you so so much for all your help! -

I took their separation anxiety class with Lauren, and she has been THE GREATEST ever!! Weekly classes are always on point, she is super knowledgeable, trustworthy, and caring trainer that I will always trust. Before knowing her our journey had been so rough and I felt like my dog and I had gone nowhere, until I met her! We are planning on being consistent with her great training sessions with so much hope:) Thank you Lauren!! Ronin and Haruka -

I will never stop raving about and sharing content from Calm Canine Academy with every dog guardian I meet. The most ethical and educational training experience weāve ever had. Karishma, specifically, is absolutely phenomenal. An absolute gem of a human, so encouraging, thoughtful, knowledgeable, could go on and on. These are people who CARE deeply about dogs AND their guardians. Going through the Feisty Fido program with our dog was truly life changing. We still have a longggggg way to go, but it opened our eyes to things we couldāve never imagined for our dog. I canāt think of a single negative thing to say. If you want a program that works and never makes you feel uncomfortable, please please work with them. The online platform can definitely be daunting, but if you engage with the content and stay accountable, itās really much easier than you think it will be. We immediately enrolled into another course after finishing one round, and I donāt think itāll be our last :) 10 stars! -
Review 23 (2024-03-17 - Rating: 5)
Calm Canine is a godsend! Life with a dog who has debilitating separation anxiety is hardā¦really hard. From the first night that I had my little guy, it was very clear that he had a hard time being alone, even just in another room alone. As I tried to crate train him (because thatās what it seemed āeveryoneā recommended as the āright thing to doā), it got worse. And then trying to leave him by himself for short periods of time as a puppy so that he could āstart to get used to being aloneā (again, based on the influence of friends and familyās suggestionsā), the separation anxiety just got worse. He would cry and howl for the entire duration, sitting fixated watching the door, unable to lay down, unable to settle, no matter what treats or toys were put out. It never got better and it became very clear to me that it was not healthy for him, so I fully suspended any chance of him being alone. He went to daycare during the day while I was at work and stayed with friends or puppy sitters if I had evening plans.I had worked with two trainers in the past to help with his separation anxiety, but the first, although amazing as a dog trainer, wasnāt an SA expert. The second trainer, who was an SA expert was cold and harsh with her communication to me, leaving me once again feeling like I had done something wrong.I was a little hesitant with Calm Canine- the idea of a class vs. one on one training sounded impersonal at first, but I quickly understood the method to their madness within the first 10 minutes of the first class. As the class went around introducing themselves and their situations, I realized for the very first time that I was not alone! Knowing there are other dog parents who were suffering from the same debilitating separation anxiety that we were, I finally felt like I had found the support that I needed. Also to hear āitās not your faultā from the instructor, brought tears to my eyes.Calm Canine offers a non-judgement, science-based approach. They focus on providing the humans with the support and tools to train the dogs, and they encourage it to be in a loving and compassionate way.Yes, the process is a HUGE commitment, requiring a dedicated practice, and no, this is not an overnight solution. But I can honestly say that I can finally see light at the end of the tunnel. We just did 22 minutes! (Two years ago, that seemed like an impossible accomplishment)We started last July with Nikkitas class at 2 seconds and made our way up to 15 seconds. We had a very slow start, but the group dynamic really helped to feel supported and not alone. After moving in November, we decided to take the course over again starting in January with Lauren. Even though it was the same course, being in a new house and new environment, I felt like I needed the group support and expertise to restart where we left off. And Iām so glad we did! Hearing the curriculum over again was great, Lauren provided great perspective that just layered on top of what I had learned from Nikkita, and being in the group setting once again gave that additional support.I can not recommend Calm Canineās Separation Skills enough! Stick with it, stay focused on the marathon of the training, and know that there are others that are working through the same hard journey- itās all about finding a non-judgmental community to support and guide you through the process. Thank you, Calm Canine team! You guys are amazing! -

We did a ton of research and ultimately ended up choosing CCA to help us with Bs separation anxiety issues because we really liked the organizations philosophy. We opted for one-on-one coaching as we were anxious to get started and experience some quick wins for our dog. We were lucky enough to get partnered with Lauren who was a dream to work with. She was really positive and encouraging while managing our expectations and she gave us a ton of strategies to use to help B overcome her anxiety. She was quick with responses to our questions and we really felt like she gave us an individualized plan for B at every step along the way. I would highly recommend CCA, its clear how much they love dogs and how passionate they are about their work. Thanks Lauren! -

Weve taken the Stranger Danger course with Lauren and most recently, the Feisty Fido course with Karishma last semester and it was such a great experience and so informative. The amount of progress that my super anxious pup, Winston, made in those short twelve weeks was amazing. Im so thankful for all the knowledge and guidance that Karishma offered us and cant wait to continue to watch my boy evolve. Looking forward to our next course with Karishma in the future! ā¤ļøš¶ -

I worked with Lauren through the Feisty Fido course, followed by private classes afterward. Since Penny had many triggers and noise sensitivity, which meant that after a stressful time outside, she struggled to rest inside, Lauren recommended looking into behavioral medication. However, I live in Croatia, where behavioral medications are not commonly considered by vets. Lauren went out of her way and talked to our vet about it. It was the first time that I had a team of professionals working for Penny, which was incredibly important in our journey. While ensuring that Penny could rest at home, we practiced predictable engagement skills that could eventually help us when out and about. Finally, we did a few set-ups where Lauren helped me every step of the way.I really appreciate their approach, which considers the big picture and every aspect of a dogs wellbeing. -

Namita has been such a great support and a wealth of knowledge since the beginning. Working with the Calm Canine Academy (CCA) not only helped me build up my dogs confidence but they also helped me become more confident as a reactive dog owner. Reactivity isnāt a quick fix, if youāre looking for that, then you need to need more education. CCA is a great training program for you to learn how to be the best dog owner for your dog. Itās personalized to what your dog needs. Things go at your and your dogs pace. I highly recommend CCA for anyone struggling with dog reactivity. -

I cant begin to describe how thankful I am to have taken the Separation Skills course from CCA. Taking the class, with Lauren, has given me not only the knowledge to help my dog, Boji, with his separation anxiety, but also hope that he will overcome it. I enjoyed the class structure and appreciated the sessions being recorded. I was so impressed with the course that I signed up for Feisty Feido to help my dog with his big feelings! -

We just wrapped up our Feisty Fido course with Lauren from CCA. I love their positive approach to dog behavior and they are clearly very knowledgeable. They taught us many techniques to help our dogs gain confidence around sounds, humans, other dogs. Our trainer, Lauren, was very kind and non-judgmental, and very patient listening to all my questions (and I did have many). My anxious rescue dog had developed a noise phobia to gunshots and was too scared to go for walks for 2 months. After working hard on her trust and confidence, she finally started going on walks again. She will still panic occasionally when hearing something loud but Lauren and CCA taught me how to deal with it. We still have a lot of work to do but thats just how behavior change works. Rome was not built in a day!Happy with the progress weve made and direction weve been given! Big thank you to the CCA team! -

I have owned a reactive anxious dog for many years and tried several different methods, both positive and aversive training. For the first time I see a foundational difference in my dog after going through the Feisty Fido class. He and I both have to work at it every day, but it doesnt feel like such a battle of wills anymore, feels like we are walking down the same path for a change and making progress and enjoying the benefits of the small daily victories. Lots of good information, and deep dives. Thank you Lauren Mary and Harley -

Ive had a wonderful experience working with CCA on separation anxiety and some basic training with my puppy. We worked with Ingrid, and I was so impressed with the digital format. Ingrid provided individualized training plans for my puppy and was always available for questions and to watch and give feedback on training videos. She really took the time to get to know my dog and his challenges and strengths. The level of support that CCA provides is unmatched, which has been especially helpful in understanding and working with my dogs separation anxiety. Would highly recommend CCA for anyone looking for help with separation anxiety or basic training! -

I brought home an anxious rescue dog in June, and while initially, everything seemed fine, signs of fear-based aggression and reactivity surfaced. Seeking science-based, humane training methods, I found Calm Canine Academy (CCA) on Instagram. After consuming their free content and webinars, and working with a local R+ trainer, we made some progress. But, my dogs fear and anxiety persisted, making visitors to the home a very stressful experience and walks in busy environments challenging.I realized that we needed more personalized help, and in September, I enrolled in CCAs Feisty Fido program with Lauren. Over 10 weeks, we witnessed remarkable changes. The group setting provided invaluable insights from fellow students, enhanced by Laurens thorough feedback. With foundational engagement skills, improved health, better emotional regulation and bonding, my dog has transformed. CCA equipped us with predictable techniques, helping him navigate new and previously stressful situations. The virtual format, especially beneficial for sensitive dogs, made the process seamless. Thanks to CCA, our relationship has flourished, and I now catch glimpses of the amazing dog he is beneath the fear. I wholeheartedly recommend CCA to anyone whose dog struggles with big feelings about the world. -

I am just wrapping up the Feisty Fido course with my reactive pup. We still have a ways to go but Hershey has made so much progress in the last 9-10 weeks. The course is incredibly comprehensive and we have learned so much to support our sensitive pup. Hershey is a former free roaming dog from Kuwait and being able to work with Karisha and learn from her experience with her own former free roaming dog has been invaluable. Feisty Fido approaches reactivity holistically to ensure we are meeting Hersheys needs in terms of enrichment and exercise, learning how to reduce exposure to triggers and thoroughly exploring medical issues. We have gone from being completely over threshold at the front door to being able to play and take food on the driveway and down the sidewalk. I cant wait to see how we progress over the next several months. -

When my husband and I adopted 1-year-old Rufus (Muddy Paws Rescue Alum!), we were having difficulty navigating his decompression period and simultaneously his reactivity/aggression towards dogs, sounds, and strangers. As first-time dog owners as well, we quickly realized how much we didnt know in general, let alone when it came to supporting a reactive pup who came from a neglected home and went through 2 fosters within a very short time before we adopted him.We turned to CCA for guidance and are so grateful to Lauren for everything she has taught us through private training. After going through a little over 50 days of training, we have gotten Rufus on anxiety medications which really helped lower his baseline reactions. He can now hear barking without being scared, is slowly starting to lower his reactivity toward dogs, and is becoming less triggered by sounds and strangers. Rufus is still a work in progress but the difference weve seen in him has been tremendous already. Everything Lauren taught my husband and I has been extremely helpful and we are better dog parents and advocates for our dog as a result. Thank you Lauren for working through our tears and helping us navigate how to help Rufus feel safe and confident! Were excited to continue to track Rufus progress and book our next meet! -

I have an anxious/fearful pup who started reacting towards dogs and strangers as she got into adolescence. She also was just not very comfortable in the home because she developed a fear of the breeze from the window moving things š. Enter Ingrid, who first helped us work with our vet to rule out any medical issues. I was skeptical of the virtual format, but we appreciated all the detailed feedback via WhatsApp between sessions which really made it work. Her positivity on top of constructive corrections made us feel like we were on the right track even when feeling unsure! We are several months out from the end of our sessions, and the tools Ingrid provided us are still helping our pup navigate all types of new situations. Highly recommend for people who want to understand their dogs better. -

Gus and I had the chance to do a semester of Feisty Fido following a friends recommendation. The knowledge acquired from Karishma and their constant support were phenomenal. The group class concept also allowed us to learn from the other pups and guardians and to feel less isolated with my Big Feelings floof. Gus and I have grown tremendously through this class and we continue to work together and apply Karishmas teachings and the HEAL framework. When we are able to, we will certainly signup for another semester. Until then, thank you to Karishma and the CCA team! -

I have an extremely reactive and anxious dog. After working with other trainers and the reactivity getting worse, I decided to take the plunge with calm canine. Namita is so thorough and explains things so well. She breaks things down, and takes things slow. She tells me to do things that my dog can actually handle, rather than pushing things too fast. Weāre only about a quarter through our sessions and I feel so much hope. Weāre helping our dog to not only behave better, but feel better. This company explains things so well and I would recommend it to everyone. Thank you so much for helping us. -

CCA! Calm Canine Academy. So much to say about this wonderful organization. I have a very spazz-tastic, fearful, dog-reactive 12 year old shepherd mix. His feelings are BIG, and I needed help helping him. I will start with my first introduction to CCA, which was through the content they share on IG. Karishma does an incredible job at offering various tips on ways to help you and your dog baby. I really connected with the holistic approach to addressing behavior modification. I reached out for a consultation and received quick and helpful guidance from Gem, who made scheduling easy. I LOVE, like absolutely love, the behavior intake questionnaire they ask clients to fill out. It inquires about everything and allowed me to define where I needed help. Now, to the best part of CCA: NAMITA!!! Our behaviorist and guiding star during our time with CCA. She was kind, patient, and so understanding of how dang overwhelming behavior mod can be for an overthinking and anxious brain like mine. She gave us a CLEAR plan, with an outline of steps to take. Whatās so beautiful about CCA is they meet you anywhere you are on your journey. Namita taught me to slow down, take baby steps, and decompress when needed. I learned to be kinder to myself. This drastically changed the way I view reactivity. We were taught hard skills to practice in progressive steps. Our lessons accounted for underlying issues (pain, enrichment needs, etc). I felt like I could actually achieve what was being taught. I learned to listen to my little baby, instead of trying to āfixā him. Our journey will be a life-long one, but I realize that is OK. We have skills now to make reactive life more manageable. I will recommend CCA and Namita to anyone and everyone forever and ever. THANK YOU!!!!! -

I took CCAās Feisty Fido (FF) group coaching program this fall, and I am glad I did. Despite growing up with a number of family dogs, adopting a dog as a primary caregiver was a challenging experience: my dog is sensitive and has unpredictable reactivity (growl+lunge+bark) at other dogs. I wanted to stick to fear-and-force-free training, read so many books, and watched hours and hours of videos. We took a couple of in-person basic manners classes, which my dog always aced, but I still could not reliably predict when he would explode. After 10 weeks of the virtual program, my dog still sometimes reacts, but I as his guardian learned to be better at reading his body language and take a holistic approach to living with my dog. FF team neatly brings together the different pieces of information/concepts of behavior modification. The written material, class resources, and well-curated videos clarify what I had heard/read/watched about but failed to successfully implement (for example, pattern games). The feedback on video submissions was helpful. Also in the group setting, I learned so much from other members! The virtual format gives a more structured learning experience than all in-person classes where I am busy trying to reward my dog for being calm and also listening to the instructor. I do believe in-person sessions have value. However, well-presented virtual coaching can provide a plethora of information first for you to get to know your dog and find paths together. I would recommend CCAās FF program for dog guardians who want to navigate a path forward that makes positive changes to both humans and their sensitive dog companions. -

Iāve been working with the CCA through their Separation Skills program. I appreciated all the available assistance in addition to the weekly class. I then signed on for their month long Graduate Program to learn how to transition my dog to maintenance work down the road. My dog Snickers has shown great progress and gone from panicking within 90 seconds after I left to going 4 plus hours by himself with the ability to self soothe and settle. Theyāre upfront and let you know this is a lengthy process (Think months not just a few weeks. Anyone claiming differently isnāt being truthful) but it is well worth it and absolutely works!! -

My rescue Finn has struggled with reactivity and anxiety. We enrolled in Feisty Fido and wow what a difference! Finn is much happier and heās made such incredible progress on his reactivity. Finn rolls around in the grass now on every walk because he is so much less anxious! Noises like construction and barking dogs that would have sent Finn trying to run down the street no longer bother him and heās neutral when he sees dogs on his walks! This class was such a lifesaver, CCA has truly been fantastic. Thank you Karishma, Lauren and the rest of the team! -

I cant say enough positive things about Karishma and her team. We have been working with them for almost a year and they have taught us so much about our new puppy. Without them I dont think we would have survived the first year as puppy owners. We saw real results that were super useful. It was also really fun to learn about how our dog communicates with us. I really think of it as its training for the humans to learn more about their dog. Will continue to use their services!! -

CCA is truly amazing! I worked with the founder Karishma and they were absolutely phenomenal. Iāve seeked help in many places but none compare to cca. They are dedicated, patient, kind and knowledgeable. They really know dog behaviour and do everything for you to understand it as well. Definitely recommend!! If you are anywhere in the world they are here to help and itās so worth it!!! -

Lauren at CCA has been amazing over the past 8 weeks. Weve been part of the Feisty Fido course and its already made such a difference to our boy Hudson who struggles with hypersarousal / stranger and dog reactivity/ sound sensitivity. Not only is the course really detailed but easy to understand, but Lauren has been amazing in her support with the Trainer In Your Pocket during the week between classes. After seeing multiple trainers in the past who have only made Hudsons issues worse by suppressing them rather than working on them, CCA have put us on the right path to a happy hound. We cant wait to continue working with them on the future. I cant recommend them enough! -

While our dog was not a pandemic puppy she has had the unfortunate experience of spending almost her first full year of life in quarantine and thus lacks the confidence and social skills we want her to have to be successful. Initially was skeptical that a digital format wouldnt offer much value, having only ever trained in person, both group and 1-1 training. That said, Im sure im not alone in the experience of having the trainer cue and support your dog in a behavior in class, only to feel miserably lost at home.I have to say I am TOTALLY sold on the incredible value that Calm Canine Academy offers! The digital format worked great, in fact, I think it was better than in person. In-person means other people energy, totally confident and competent trainers, not to mention dog energy and smells that are distracting. Doing the training in our home really allowed Willow to be comfortable.Karishma did an awesome job in god mode watching, making observations, and providing feedback on what she saw. It was clear that shes done her homework on both dogs AND humans and could pick up on even the smallest body language communications over zoom. She was also HILARIOUS - I felt like I was watching a Netflix documentary...Im so hooked that I immediately signed up for some digital 1-1 training because I feel confident she can help me work to support my wonderful dog with some behaviors that are holding her back. 100% recommend! -

The feisty fido 8-week course was literally life-changing for my dog with major fear aggression. She is now so much calmer. I love that these trainers do not use any method other than rewarding your dog for making healthy choices -- they do not condone punishment. My dogs life just got a major upgrade. Now we can manage her anxiety with so many helpful tips, including enrichment/management, socialization, medication, understanding of her biology, her triggers, what to reinforce and what to avoid. And it was really so simple. The first class alone made a world of a difference (but I would fully recommend the advancement of the skills over the full 8-weeks). Every dog deserves to be treated with respect in the way these trainers make sure to educate and advocate for. God bless these people who care so much for our best friends. -

My husband and I were skeptical about virtual training, but it turned out we were apprehensive for nothing! We enrolled our puppy in the Feisty Fido program and have slowly begun seeing some positive (relaxing!) changes in our high-drive, go-go-go, doesnt-know-how-to-relax, Mal puppy. The trainers at CCA gave us all the tools and resources to be the best trainer our puppy needed and were very responsive if we had any issues crop up or questions we needed answered. I would highly recommend them and plan to take their advanced class in the future! -

My husband and I have the sweetest 6 month old aussiedoodle puppy. She has a hard time focusing and relaxing when sheās outside on her leash with all the stimulation in NYC. Weāve been researching trainers and have worked with a couple but were still having trouble. We read about Karishma and immediately knew we had to work with her. Today we had our initial consultation and we absolutely loved her! She really took time to learn about Maggie and the specific things that sheās reactive to before giving us some exercises and talking us through a training plan for her. She was so encouraging, fun and clearly very knowledgeable. She followed up our session with an email containing tons of info and homework for us to work on. Weāre so excited to continue working with Karishma. We can already tell she is who we need to help get our sweet girl comfortable and confident on our overwhelming streets! -

Nicole has been an unbelievable trainer for our pup Bruno. He originally was extremely scared and anxiety ridden living on a busy street in NYC. With Nicoles guidance, we have been able to fix issues of separation anxiety as well as anxiety on the street. Bruno absolutely adores working with Nicole because she prioritizes a positive reinforcement approach to training. As long time clients of CCA, we give our strongest recommendation! -

UPDATE:We continue to love working with Karishma and everyone at Calm Canine Academy. Ive been impressed with how well they have adjusted to a digital format. We have continued 30-minute private sessions to make sure Elphie is staying up to date with her behaviors and also working on ensuring a smooth transition once we can resume normal day to day interactions. Karishma is so helpful in figuring out what we need to do now to make it a smooth transition in the future! We have also been taking two of the digital group classes, Tricks 101 and Barkour. Its something fun and social to do right now, and Im so impressed with Karishmas ability to help over video. We send video updates of our homework for each class during the week via a group chat with other students and receive feedback immediately. Barkour has helped me figure out a way to keep Elphie occupied while we are spending so much time at home, and we can use regular household items. The classes are a good price, and the price is lower than other dog trainers offering similar options. While we are enjoying the current setup, Elphie still cant wait to see Karishma in person again!ORIGINAL REVIEW:My dog, Elphie, and I have been working with Karishma for almost 2 years. Elphie has some behavior issues and Karishma has been wonderful with her. She understands the dogs needs, and also takes time to understand the owners as well. Weve taken many classes that Karishma has taught where we have learned so much about behavior, tricks, and good manners. Weve attended playtimes with other dogs where she is able to keep an eye on a small group of dogs and work individually on all of the needs each dog has. Weve participated in one on one training with one other dog to encourage proper play behavior. And, weve also had private training where Karishma has been able to come to my apartment and help me with issues Elphie has at home. Elphie works with Karishma on a weekly basis. After every session, I get a write up with notes and videos. The videos really help and allow me to see the proper way to conduct training. Most importantly, my dog LOVES working with her and I would recommend her to anyone with the highest praise. -

We had our first in home consultation with Karishma and she was very knowledgeable and helpful! Living in NYC and in a small apartment, my dog Penny can be reactive and very barky at noises in the hallway, the elevator, delivery people, buzzer and any neighbor she hears. She will dart to the door and theres not much I can do to calm her down.Karishma taught us some exercises we can do to help manage her reactivity so fingers crossed it will help Penny calm down a bit.If you are looking for a trainer to work one on one with your fur baby, I highly recommend Karishma. It definitely helps being in your own home to make your pup feel comfortable and also she is able to see first hand the issues you are facing with your dog. She will send detailed notes after your session and offer some helpful resources to check out. Thanks Karishma!! -

We just started their separation anxiety class and I have already learned more after attending the first 3 classes then I did reading 3 books on SA on my own. I wish I had started with them immediately when I realized that Bernie needed desensitization training. Not only is he making great progress in his separation anxiety, but, the class is very holistic, so we also understand how to better provide sufficient enrichment and exercise for a very active puppy. -

We donāt have enough good things to say about our experience with Karishma. She came to our apartment to work with us and our 5 month foster pup on getting over some fears of the outdoors and focusing more inside. She immediately got to work and tried to make the most of the hour we had with her. She did a great job explaining the exercises, what they were supposed to help teach him and how to prevent him from getting frustrated. She also sent along very detailed notes about our session, advice, and links to pdfs and videos to make sure we had the support we needed to continue our training without her. We would absolutely recommend working with Karishma and hope to do so in the future with other fosters! -

Karishma came to our apartment for a one-hour session with Coco, our 2-year-old foster chihuahua. An hour isnt much time, but Karishma shared an amazing amount of information in that short period. Our foster is very reactive--he barks and snaps at strangers and other dogs, barks when the elevator doors open, barks whenever anyone walks past our door, and especially when anyone walks into our apartment. Karishma gave us very thorough explanations of whats causing this behavior and gave us some tools to start changing it. After a week of implementing her elevator strategy, Coco happily walks in when the doors open. The stranger anxiety is going take a lot longer to manage, but Karishma gave us great advice and really helped us set him up for success. I highly, highly recommend this trainer! -

This is the BEST dog training school in the city, dare I say the world. Karishma is the best dog trainer. She deeply cares about animals and understands dogs so well. I adopted a wily jack russell terrier mix for my first dog and she was a handful. But with Karishmaās support and guidance, I was able to wrangle her into one of the best trained dogs in the world (as vouched by my coworkers, friends and random other dog owners). Definitely worth every penny. Invest in your dog and do it the right way. š¶ā¤ļø -

CCA have been fantastic for us with our bike reactive dog Ginny. We used their remote private training since we werent in NY and it was still better than other trainers weve worked with in person. Theyre easily the most organized, they have amazing content, and they give you training tools that are easy to generalize to new issues that may pop up. Highly recommend -

We did a Zoom consultation with Ingrid who was so patient (we had a lot to discuss!), kind, and knowledgable. Ingrid made us feel in control and provided us with games and strategies to help our often-anxious 3-year-old rescue feel calm and secure in stressful situations. We are already seeing a difference in our dogs behavior after only a few days of implementing the strategies, and we feel confident knowing that Ingrid is around if we need to schedule another session or have more questions. Thank you thank you thank you! -

We were skeptical of doing puppy classes over Zoom, but theyāve been so helpful in getting us through the first three months of puppy parenthood! The WhatsApp group is a super helpful tool that we use to ask questions after little problems might arise here or there, and Karishma and Nicole always share really helpful resources that help meet us where weāre at in our training. Weāre really looking forward to continuing group Zoom lessons through the adolescent masterclass! -

New York City can be daunting for humans and pets alike. Karishma has an uncanny ability to understand the psychology behind dogs and how to help them navigate and acclimate to city life. Her patience, insight and teaching methods are simply the best. We have had other trainers, but Karishma is in a league of her own. Her videos and follow up gives us the tools we need to reinforce what she has done in her training lessons. We feel so fortunate to have found Karishma and Calm Canine Academy. -

Took the Feisty Fido online course with Lauren. In just three months we have made so much progress with our reactive rescue! We have made huge strides in our furkid riding in the car - we went from him screaming the entire way to taking him on a three day road trip with very few barks/screams. Lauren has also done a simply amazing job teaching me how to pick up on my kiddos body language/behavior so I can best learn how to help him (such an invaluable skill!). Weve actually already signed up for a second semester so that we can continue to build on the great progress we have made. -

After two hours with Karishma, I learned so much and am so excited to continue with my rescued chispaniel, Frank Jr Jrs training. My perfect little friend needs some help with impulse control and general manners. Karishma asked tons of thoughtful questions, really listened to my concerns, and started teaching Frank (and me!) some vital fundamentals to help Frank be successful in the world.Dog trainers isnt just about training the dog - its about training you, so its important that the trainer have knowledge but also compassion for the owner. Karishma has this in spades. She was eager to help, non-judgemental, and I truly felt like she cared about our well-being. I wouldnt hesitate recommending Calm Canine to anyone looking for help with their pup. -
Review 73 (2023-04-10 - Rating: 5)
We adopted our dog 10 months ago and had been tackling reactivity with a pretty good online training module with some success since adopting him. However due to multiple reasons, he had backslid a lot in the past few months and we were finally feeling we really needed to hire a trainer. I was certain the right way to do it was to find a local person to do in-person training but I was underwhelmed with most of what I was finding. Then I found CCA on Instagram and started listening to some of their free webinars and info they make available (some also on YouTube). The more I listened the more I was certain they had the right philosophy for me and my dog and so much of what they said made such sense, including not saving RX meds as a last resort for reactivity (which was the understanding that I previously had). So I decided there was no harm in paying for a consultation and beginning the discussion about meds with my Vet. BTW they offered a discount on services if you sign up via text.I had low expectations for the 90-minute consultation, figuring that I would learn a few new things and maybe have a slightly better understanding of why we were backsliding and then I expected them to convince me me on the need to buy their training services. I was so wrong! Namita did a fabulous job at helping me understand the complexity that is my dogs anxiety! I learned that I was missing so many signs of stress and anxiety and that my dog feels under constant attack in my urban environment. I had a LOT of āah-ha!ā moments in that 90 minutes. That alone would have been worth the small consult price tag I paid, but I got a lot more for that money including a letter for my vet to help me advocate for the RX meds, half a dozen training and management practices I could immediately put into effect and a multitude of links and resources in my lengthy post- consult report. Needless to say we signed up for private training with Namita without anyone even asking or trying to sell me on the services, I just knew this was the right move to make. ALSO- Scheduling and communication was a breeze with Gem and the team.We are now halfway through 8 sessions of training with and we continue to get so much more than we bargained for (reactivity training was just the tip of the iceberg) and any of my hesitancy about virtual vs in- person was completely unwarranted, especially with their trainer in your pocket service. Namita is amazing, but I believe you would get the same level of competence and compassion from ALL their trainers and that they seek quality in their team members. If you are still unconvinced, at least check out their free content on social media and YouTube. Both you and your pooch will benefit and I promise you will learn something new! -

Im so happy we found Calm Canine Academy. Weve been working with Ingrid on our rescues multiple behavior concerns (dog reactivity, stranger reactivity, separation anxiety, and noise sensitivity) for a few months now and I cannot imagine going on this journey without Ingrid and CCA. Ingrid is incredibly smart, supportive, and insightful. She has helped us deepen our bond with our dog and troubleshoot a wide variety of issues. I love the virtual sessions, which allow us to keep our dog comfortable and relaxed while getting feedback in our home. Highly recommend booking a package for the trainer in your pocket service. I wish every person with a dog worked with humane and evidence-based trainers like the staff at CCA. -

I signed up for the Feisty Fido group class so that I could learn and train alongside others, feel less alone in my journey with my dog, and have some accountability and support without having to pay the high price of individual sessions.Iād say it mostly worked out somehow. The trainers seem very knowledgeable, are compassionate, and give helpful individualized feedback and advice.I didnāt feel much sense of community though and the content of the course covered some information that did not apply to my situation at all.The curriculum covers a bit of everything and I think the content is helpful for people who want and/or need a more holistic approach to training than just teaching a dog new skills.Youāll likely have material you can work through after the course is finished. The course documents are very well organized and you can rewatch videos. The response time to questions and videos posted in the course Slack was a little slow, made worse by the time difference between the US and UK (and an unforseeable emergency which is obviously out of everyoneās control). The expectation is that you organize your own training setups so you should know people and dogs who are willing to create training situations with you or you should be ready to find people through social media posts. I found that part challenging. If youāre looking for help with stranger danger, Feisty Fido does not specifically address stranger danger, it focuses on meeting your dogs needs, general anxiety, noise sensitivity, multi-dog household issues, and resource guarding.Thereās a separate second course particularly on stranger danger. If thatās your dogās issue be prepared to pay for two group classes, since Feisty Fido is a pre-requisite for the Stranger Danger course. -

Calm Canine Academy was recommended to me by a friend, so I was so happy when I reached out and met Nicole, who offers in-person training in New York City. My French bulldog puppy, Winston, and I had 8 in-person training sessions with Nicole, and we learned everything from basic commands including sit, down, & wait, to leash walking skills, crate training tools, and recall. I love that Calm Canine Academy uses only positive reinforcement with dogs, and Nicole truly helped me go at Winstonās pace to ensure that he got the most out of his training. We practice everything Nicole taught us on a daily basis, and Winston is growing up into such a calm, well-socialized dog. And anytime I have questions, Nicole is a phone call or text message away. Nicole recently stayed with Winston for 4 nights while I was out of town, and she took such good care of him; I think as happy as he was to see me when I got home, he was equally sad to see her go! It meant so much to me to know that he was in such good hands. I highly recommend Calm Canine Academy to anyone who is committed to training their puppy. -

LOVE these trainers and courses - my puppy came on in leaps and bounds once we started the puppy course and the Calm Canine course. It also helped ME understand how to deal with his behaviours and look for the underlying issues - and how not to be a pushy Mum! Trainers were always so good with feedback on the multiple videos I sent in for evaluation - timely and informative! The most important aspect for me is that it is totally NON AVERSIVE - we look at the true issue and deal with that in a positive non intimidating way! -

Had a wonderful experience with Ingrid, she is so knowledgable and gave us very different advice than every other trainer we had previously worked with on how to deal with our dogs separation anxiety - and of course her approach worked! She was also incredibly helpful beyond that issue - helping diagnose some medical issues that were causing behavior etc. Highly recommend! -

I am writing this review almost two months after completing training for Sounds Sensitivity and am in a place that I wouldnāt have thought possible even after completing training. Today, I am in a room at the animal hospital with my pup listening to the other pups barking nonstop while my Mo is sleeping peacefully next to me before her spay/pexy. Never before would I have thought to advocate for my dog to ask to stay until surgery to help with Moās anxiety. Never before would I have thought that Mo could nap through a barrage of barks and unknown noises. Never before would I have thought I would be so connected to my pup and be able to anticipate her needs. But Karishma and CCA gave me that. They gave us the tools to cohabitate, to enrich, to advocate and to care for. It is truly the greatest gift. I cannot thank CCA enough. -

I started searching for a new dog trainer when it became clear our rescue dog was suffering from anxiety and reacting out of fear against other dogs. We had our first in-home consultation with Karishma from Calm Canine Academy and it was clear right from the start that she understood our dog and his reactions. She was able to understand his personality and create a training plan for him that was suitable and realistic. Other trainers we have met have given us āset training plansā which did not take the limitations of our dog into consideration. Karishma was great and was able to create a bespoke training plan for him and us. The rest of her team are great too, very responsive and communicative. We plan to continue to work with her to build our dogs confidence and skills. -

Karishma was an answered prayer for us! Our 9 month old lab puppy is in her rebellious phase and shed been nipping and biting and just being SO bold. Wed tried everything we could think of, read all the articles, trained her every way we knew how and literally nothing worked until Karishma.First impression, Karishma is SO friendly, has such a calming, welcoming presence, and the minute I met her I was a huge fan. We went to her office where she talked through the background of our pup with us and then went straight into her recommendations. She explained so thoroughly what the motivation behind every behavior was, what we should do to combat it, and then demonstrated to us if possible. We literally watched our dog learn to lay down (and stay down) quietly right then and there! She had so many amazing ideas and tips to share and said several times that these were things she had done with her own dogs. Weve already begun implementing these things with our dog and although its not perfect yet, its a much better situation than before.I would one thousand percent recommend working with Karishma, even if you can only do it once! We gained so much valuable insight and knowledge from her, and she will forever be our go-to trainer for our puppy girl (and any other dogs we may get in the future)!
