Maddie is fantastic! Her approach is very holistic and thorough. She is interested in all of the details of your dogs behavior, health, routine, etc. to work towards understanding what is going on and to be able to create a very workable plan to address the issues. She gives you detailed notes after every session with instructions on how to practice what she taught you. She is fabulous and I cannot recommend her more highly! -

I spoke to Maddie Messina during the initial free consultation and she was great! Really attentive and invested in helping us with our pup Ginger. We completed our first session and working with Maddie in person was amazing. She understands our needs and our pup as well! -

We were having a lot of reactivity issues with our dog so we reached out to Maddie. I cannot thank her enough for the work she did with us. Her approach is scientific and methodical from the start and I could immediately tell we would have real solutions working with her after our initial phone call. In three sessions and a couple of emails, she gave us so many tools to help manage our dogs anxiety and everything just feels so much easier for him now. Hes improved tremendously in only 2 months thanks to her expertise. I also really love how thorough she is with notes and follow up on what was discussed in our sessions, something I did not experience with previous trainers and found to be invaluable this time around. Maddie was so kind and lovely to our dog and to us. She shows so much grace and understanding to both dogs and owners which I really appreciated. 10/10 experience! -

Maddie has worked with us 3 times now, and I have found her to be professional, knowledgeable, and very likeable. She has had some great suggestions that will hopefully help my dog. I recommend her without reservation. -

Only regret is we didn’t reach out to Maddie sooner. Her approach is clear, organized, compassionate, methodical, and meets you where you and your dog are. There is no quick fix for separation anxiety; humans need to be ready to put in the work and time. Maddie gives clear guidance and markers to track progress and make results feel tangible - she is the best. -

We are so lucky to have found Maddie & Paws for Thought. She’s been an incredible resource for our puppy over the last couple of years. From the very first week we got him, she’s helped train him and us. Can’t imagine raising a city dog without her. -

If youre looking for someone who will teach you how to walk your dogs with choke collars, instill fear and discipline in your pooch and teach it one for, then maddie is not for you.She is compassionate, tremendously caring and understanding of dogs of all temperaments. Focused on detail and positivity training, follow.her methods and you (and your poochie) will overcome your issues.Very flexible and amiable, she was my first trainer and I couldnt have asked for anyone better. Very recommended if you couldnt tell by now. -

Review 10 (2022-11-02 - Rating: 5)
Maddie works absolute magic with dogs! She made such a difference in our lives - both human and dog! She is kind, trustworthy and one of the most well educated trainers I have come across. She taught my nervous and excitable puppy how to behave, socialize, and a ton of tricks. She taught us humans achievable methods to enforce the training on our own. Whether you are thinking about one session or ongoing training - dont hesitate with Maddie. Maddies methods are also extremely well researched and studied. She is a true standout in the field and I would recommend Maddie to anyone that loves their dog! -

Maddie is just fantastic. My husband and I are getting our first puppy together. I’ve had dogs previously, but it has been 20 years since I had a puppy, and my husband has never had a dog. We both learned so much during our session with Maddie. She was thorough, followed up by identifying local trainers for us and sending both recording and reference notes from our session. Our new little Maisy comes home next week and we are well prepared - and plan to be using Maddie/Paws for Thought as we all settle in to life together. THANK YOU, Maddie! -

Maddie is EXCELLENT. Even just after our initial session I feel so much more hopeful about my dog and getting the help he needs. She was incredibly informative and patient and allowed me to ask many questions. We are fortunate to have found her and I look forward to seeing how my dog’s behavior improves with her help. -

Maddie is AMAZING. She is clearly so knowledgeable about dogs and is able to convey her knowledge in an approachable, digestible way. Shes helped me over the last months with my reactive rescue dog, helping me understand my dogs behavior on a conceptual level, and then providing me with comprehensive notes from our sessions, detailed resources, and many training techniques. A past professor of hers highly recommended her to me, and its clear why. Maddie is a life-saver! -

Maddie is fantastic. We worked with her twice to train our 10 month old mixed breed dog, and the results were fantastic. She tailored the training to our main problem areas, and gave us incredibly practical advice that worked like a charm. She also sent awesome detailed notes after each session so we didnt have to remember all of the details. I would highly recommend her services!! -

Maddie is amazing. Shes been training my dog Rio since he was a puppy, and he advanced so quickly with her guidance. Plus, he absolutely adores her. Maddie also makes herself available to answer any questions we have in between sessions and her advice always feels custom tailored to my dog. I really am so grateful to her and would recommend her to anyone. Shes so worth it. -
Review 22 (2023-07-14 - Rating: 5)
We hired Maddie on the recommendation of our vet. I am so glad we did. Our dog has several different issues, fear of noises, not always coming when called, fearful. Maddie was such a professional, she always had solutions for us to work with our dog. I really don’t know where we would be if Maddie had not come to the rescue! -
Review 23 (2023-11-28 - Rating: 5)
I have worked with multiple trainers in NYC with different approaches. I can honestly say - Maddie provides the most thoughtful, behavioral based training with follow up and support. The documents she provides at the end of the session encapsulate everything we work on - and she is always a call away when I have any questions or snafus - this isnt just a profit driven business but rather science and love based - well worth the investment which I can confidently say others in Brookly are NOT that way. If youre looking for a high quality / caring - support with your fur baby - look no further. -

Maddie is an incredible dog trainer and a wealth of knowledge on dog training and care. She helped me and my dog get into a great place from a training perspective and our refresher sessions are awesome. I appreciate her detailed notes and recommendations she sends me after each session so I can remember what we are working on that week. -

What a difference 90 minutes with Maddie makes! She is practical, intuitive, patient and wise. Remarkably, I saw progress within the first session and found her instructions easy to practice to get my stubborn 19 month old Bernedoodle to behave better. Our vet recommended her and I totally recommend her too! -

Working with Maddie of Paws for Thought has been so informative and helpful with my fearful and anxious Coton de Tulear. Maddie is so patient in teaching me how to work with my pup to redirect his aggressive behavior for calmer responses towards other dogs. She has a genuine interest in helping our 20 month old achieve a positive change and an equal interest in helping us live with a happier boy. -

Maddie is an incredible dog trainer. We had three sessions with her and she really helped our puppy Zuma become less anxious and easier to take care of overall. She taught us valuable techniques to deal with his separation anxiety and resource guarding that we will continue to use moving forward. We would recommend her to anyone and everyone who is struggling with a challenging pup or just wants to learn helpful tips and tricks/best practices for caring for dogs. She is calm, patient and understanding in her approach and a great listener. She also has years of experience under her belt, and it shows. We are truly indebted to her and are so grateful for her help. Thank you, Maddie!
