Giovanni was fantastic. He made sure we were taken care of. He was so helpful and we loved him and we will be back 💖

Excellent! First time visiting this gem today. Bagels are generous, fresh, warm, and delish. I got a bacon, egg, and cheese on a wheat everything and was very impressed. They have a nice selection of bagels out of the ordinary ones you find in most bagel shops, and many cream cheese selections.Staff were friendly and helpful. Price was a little high but reasonable. Highly recommended if you’re close by.

A nice park in East Village to enjoy the sun and take some rest. The facilities around the park are in a good shape (playground for kids, benches etc.) and the park is relative clean. Unfortunately there is open drug consumption and I’m not speaking about alcohol or weed. Right in front of us was a guy smoking crack like it’s completely normal and a group of junkies were sharing some pipe. I feel truly sorry for these guys but would appreciate if the police would control this better.

One of the best park around lower east manhattan.. highly recommend for pet. And small but very beautiful.

  • Review 5 (2023-12-05 - Rating: 4)

This is a different Tompkins than the one I used to hear about. I found the park to be clean and peaceful. They even have a Ping Pong table. I like the statues I saw. I wanted to see a memorial they have in reference to the General Slocum tragedy but unfortunately I wasnt able to locate it. I was surprised that when I asked people in the park about it they didnt have a clue. Ill have to go back and find it.

In fourth grade, my school took us on a walking tour of the Lower East Side and the Village. It was an ersatz version of a visit to the overpriced Tenement Museum. The whole experience seems slightly absurd, in retrospect. Our teacher described how these buildings, adorned with their little architectural flourishes, had once housed throngs of immigrant New Yorkers, crammed together five to a room. The intended message, however, fell flat with us - we were all immigrant New Yorkers from Flushing, so this was hardly a revelation. What struck me instead was the grandeur of it all: the stately six-story pre-war buildings and the charming park at the center. To me, this was the height of bourgeois opulence, though I didn’t know those words at the time. I knew when I grew up I would escape smelly old Queens for some charming little space one of these walk-ups. Even then, I harbored a certain disdain for anything unchic. Or perhaps I had already begun to internalize a neurotic need to expel any part of myself that might seem vulnerable, hideous, or pitiable, to create a mirror of myself detached from the last seven, fourteen, twenty-one years of my existence. The park itself is lovely, although I havent been in years.

Tompkins Square Park is a relaxing place in the East Village. The park is relatively small in size (about 10 acres), but it has plenty to do, including a playground for children, an off-leash dog park, chessboard tables, and green space for picnics and reading. The park has plenty of trees that make for a pleasant afternoon stroll.

  • Review 8 (2022-08-29 - Rating: 4)

Was here for the Jazz Festival. First visit. Nice park and layout. Needs some structural work and rest room maintenance, but dont let that hold you back. Good place for kids and dogs, too. Now sit down and take a rest.

  • Review 9 (2020-01-11 - Rating: 5)

I absolutely love how quiet and serene this park is. Unlike the other major parks, this one isnt as busy and its full of locals. You wont see too many tourist here, so its nice to slow down and gather yourself here before exploring some more. Theres plenty of good food options around, so you wont have to travel far. Good for a quick visit.

  • Review 10 (2022-05-31 - Rating: 5)

Such fun! Whether friends, family or strangers you meet here, is all incredible fun. Its clean, good lawns, plenty trees for sitting or picnicking, laughing and loving on sunny wonderful days. If you love nearby, I seriously recommend going. In fact, JUST GO! Youll love it

  • Review 11 (2019-04-29 - Rating: 5)

Small dog park is amazing. This past week they changed the dirt to grass turf! Wow it’s now my favorite place to take my dog. He no longer smells after we play in the dog park, but I have a feeling it will get over crowded now when the weather is warmer.

  • Review 12 (2023-08-05 - Rating: 4)

A chill lesser known park in NYC. Moderately crowded and clean. There were people with their picnic mats - I saw some dogs, people with their guitar and beers. I also saw someone setting up stage for a mini music concert later. Great for a sunny day! Only downside is that there is no subway close - you have to walk for 8-10 minutes to the closest station.

My niece was playing in a basketball game. It was great. I loved the art, good idea for playground behind the basketball court for the younger children. Everything looked goodVery clean park

Open field of fresh air! Clean with limited seating so it’s mostly for walking around.

  • Review 15 (2024-08-28 - Rating: 4)

  • Review 16 (2024-09-14 - Rating: 4)

Busy NYC park serving East Village, some similarity with Washington Square park. Nice stroll across the park while passing through the area.

  • Review 17 (2021-10-13 - Rating: 5)

A really beautiful park ! They have awesome rock concerts every now and then. Super cool young bands getting great exposure. Its not fall and the trees and slowly starting the brown. The leaves are turning brown and starting to fall and it gives the park a wonderful asthetic. Lots of playful squirrels running around too. Nice to just sit and read a book, play some table tennis or other sports with friends, run around and have fun or just chill out and relax.

  • Review 18 (2024-08-30 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 22 (2024-12-09 - Rating: 5)

Its the same park, but without the shanty shacks and bandshell...the far s/e corner of stuyvesant farm. It has a living growing tree suitable for Christmas lights.

Nice area to take family for a walk, a picnic or even play in the park. They have I believe 3 play grounds for children to play in. A dog park, which has two sides one for small dogs and other side has big dogs

  • Review 25 (2020-01-02 - Rating: 5)

This is a holy place for Hare Krishnas. It has the Hare Krishna Tree under which Srila Prabhupada, the founder of Hare Krishna movement, chanted and kicked off the world wide movement in 1966. My wife and I went to this park in winters so it was pretty dry but it was still clean and had nice walk ways.

  • Review 26 (2018-08-14 - Rating: 5)

Great place to bring your pup. I love that there is a separate area for small dogs, just makes it more fun for everyone. It’s also huge so there is tons of room to run around. Plus there is a doggie pool which is great for the heat or if you’re dog is like mind all the time.

  • Review 27 (2023-05-22 - Rating: 5)

My favorite park in this big beautiful city. Picnics start around end of May when the grass grows in and its warm enough. The evolution of this park over the last 5 years has been wild.

  • Review 28 (2023-08-14 - Rating: 5)

Small, cute park. Good seating for people who prefer tables to picnic on. A dog park large enough dedicated just to pet owners.

  • Review 29 (2023-08-16 - Rating: 5)

Beautiful park, is not one of the biggest but that makes it special, if you want to relax, take a walk with your dog this is the right place and not to mention that you will have lots of places to eat something all around the park

  • Review 30 (2019-05-29 - Rating: 5)

I love all the parks in the city but this one has a special place in my heart. Capturing the real vibe of the East Village, this is the best spot to relax and do pretty much anything you like to do. Great restaurants and bars frame the park and boutique shops dot the in between spaces. A must stop if you are exploring the Village.

  • Review 31 (2021-01-21 - Rating: 5)

I heard about this place from song of band- Mumford & Sons what is great, indeed! That’s why I decided to go there in very cold and dark evening. Could not say more than it is clean and very nice looking place. Worth visiting for sure!

  • Review 33 (2023-04-14 - Rating: 4)

Overall Great park. Musicians were playing, there is 2 playgrounds, a picnic area, and an area for dogs. Bathrooms were kind of gross. Cart vendors had toys and treats available for sale.

HAre Krishna!Historical Park for many Generations to come. This is the first park in the West where Srila Prabhupada founder Acharya of ISKCON International Society of Krishna first started singing Sri Hari Nama Sankirtan - The congregational chanting of the Holy Name of Krishna and Rama in 1965 with a group of his early western disciples. As predicted by Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (500 years ago) the Chanting of Lord Krishnas name shall spread to Every Town and Villge of the World. fifty years on this has remarkably been achieved by the devotees of ISKCON.Shri Hari Nama Sankirtan Ki jaya!

  • Review 37 (2024-08-22 - Rating: 5)

Great park with people of all walks of life. Make sure to visit Rays before or after the park.

  • Review 38 (2018-02-06 - Rating: 5)

Love Tompkins Square Park, evolving over my 47 years there! Pause at the memorial to the Slocum disaster, when over 1000 Lower East Siders perished on a pleasure outing, mostly children. Then find the delightful Miguels Mountain. Notice the Tai Chi practitioners and the fitness training area, the handball courts, basketball and baseball fields, and in summer, an outdoor pool. Dont miss the Hari Krishna tree! Theres a much frequented and well maintained dog run, plenty of seating, three excellent childrens playgrounds for all skills and social levels, and the park is surrounded by spaces to run to if it rains - the NY Public Library, St Bridgets and Trinity Lutheran Churches, and many coffee shops, bars and restaurants. Plantings and upkeep seem well managed and this park is enjoyable by all ages and demographics.

  • Review 39 (2021-08-26 - Rating: 4)

Best dog park in the city, numerous park benches, wonderful lawn areas to sit on or against trees, and of course the famous Hare Krisha tree. This place holds nothing but happiness. Beware the SW corner of the park though (near the chess tables). Lots of vagrants/drug users.

  • Review 40 (2024-05-25 - Rating: 5)

I have fond memories visiting this park from when I used to live a short walk away during my first year in the city. Obviously historically significant, it’s since known for the dog parade, regular live shows, and for being a peaceful oasis for New Yorkers living in the neighborhood.I used to love visiting the NYPL branch nearby and coming here to read for a bit, or to get a bagel at Tompkins Square Bagels (best bagels in NYC imo!) and enjoy it under the trees here. It’s a small, but lovely park!

  • Review 41 (2024-04-25 - Rating: 4)

Love this park! I Take my little dog there daily, the nicest people and a lovely nature bubble. Not always super clean in specific areas but overall love coming here.

  • Review 42 (2022-08-07 - Rating: 5)

Are YOU in the mood for randomness?? This is the park for you! Aging punk rock metal concert? Man feeding pigeons from the largest feed bag youve ever seen? Wedding photos happening in the middle of everything?? Weve got it!

Best jungle gym for calisthenics south of Central Park. Plenty of basketball courts and tennis wall.

  • Review 44 (2018-08-04 - Rating: 5)

FROM OUR DAUGHTER, I like how its very fun and at the starting of the entrance of the park theres a ginormous really fast slide and I really like that slide!!!

  • Review 45 (2023-10-28 - Rating: 5)

The park has 3 playgrounds for the little kids and people play live music on the weekends. I usually listen to the music from the playgrounds. It has a good vibe. People only comments on the homeless community but they are doing they own things. I never felt in danger. I take my kids through the park during the day. It is cool. The bathroom are closed . Don’t try to go in the portable toilet. They are horrible . The park has a lot of history.

  • Review 46 (2024-03-26 - Rating: 4)

I dont love the layout with its circuitous paths, the central E-W thoroughfare that is comparatively blocked of northern access routesIts got a very junior size park feel but with the footprint of an anchor park like Madison, union, Washington etc.The best thing thats got going for it if its location. Its a nice thing to have in alphabet city but then again, its in alphabet city. The park is kinda grungy and not a lot going on except the cyclically recurring feeling of needing to have ones guard up at night, or when I visited after a long absence in 2021 and saw that the border of the fence inside and out had become the most despicable variety of a degenerate tent encampment. That has since been cleared out (no doubt to the crying of full time activists).Lately, however, its been quiet. Nearly empty at night. Some using the courts during the day or sitting at lunch/dinner time.

  • Review 47 (2017-11-26 - Rating: 4)

Once a year, there is the dog Halloween parade. It gets busy but it should be experienced once at least. If you dont have a dog you could always borrow one just for this day.

  • Review 48 (2017-07-01 - Rating: 5)

The dog walk is a great place to observe numerous little drama plays in a moment. When your tired of that, just look around at the human wildlife set along the well manicured paths. Dont forget to look up. Last time I ran across a pair of juvenile red-tail Hawks.

  • Review 49 (2019-02-04 - Rating: 4)

Nice dog park with a big dog side and a small dog side. Small dog side can get a little cramped at times. Dog owners are all very chill. Watch out for the rat burrows, especially if you have a rat terrier breed of dog, rat bites are not fun. The ubiquitous scent of weed and the random screaming homeless person are all part of the charm.

  • Review 50 (2022-08-27 - Rating: 5)

Great park with a lot of history! There are regular free Punk Rock shows and jazz performances during the summertime.

  • Review 51 (2024-04-22 - Rating: 4)

Nice park, not too well known to visitors but highly recommend coming here. Any New Yorker will know this park has had a bit of a reputation in the past, tons of history, though fortunately it’s a whole different park now. Very much recommend visiting.

  • Review 60 (2019-03-21 - Rating: 5)

Right in the heart of Alphabet City this place is great for watching dogs play in the large and busy dog park. Its located near some of the best nightlife in NYC and is great place to smoke a joint with friends 👍.They have basketball courts that are always being used, also cool to watch. It does get a little creepy at night and the homeless people at night can get intimidating for people not used to the city. Many films and TV shows film here, Russian Dolls on Netflix takes place all around the neighborhood and much of it happens in the park. 👍😉

  • Review 61 (2021-08-18 - Rating: 5)

Our family toured this park with an amazing tour guide True Tales of NYC Walking Tours and also again with Free Tours by Foot also an amazing tour and we learned different things on EACH tour!!!1874 the first protest took place here. This was the year of the first stock market crash. Factory owners went bankrupt – laid off workers – left people homeless – setting up camps in parks. The population was majority Eastern European and Russians that brought some of their socialist ideas with them to America – pamphlets were passed around with these socialist ideas – they tried to get the city to listen to them but the city ignored them. So they got proper permits to protest legally – the night before the protest was to take place the city revoked the permit and the protest was met with cops on horseback to arrest them!!! This was the beginning of animosity between government and protestors that continues today!!! It was also the start of the Union movement which you can thank them for things like the 40-hour work weeks and health insurance.1970/80s Thompkins Square Park was known as needle park which makes it ironic to have a Temperance Fountain here at this park. Because it was the temperance movement that gave rise to 1920 Prohibition which gave birth to mafia

  • Review 62 (2018-02-15 - Rating: 5)

Incredible place of historical significance with The Hare Krishna Tree that A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada started chanting under to create a worldwide movement in the 1960s.Also, almost every morning at 9.30am - there is a special FREE vegetarian meal of santificied food that is served to anyone and all! Its freshly cooked every morning by a team that is headed by a student of A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami, Adi-Purusa das. This guy really dates 👌

We love the playgrounds at Tompkins Square Park. It’s our go-to park in the neighborhood. It’s clean, safe, and there are always a lot of people sitting on the benches and walking around. There are always some homeless people and crackheads like you see in any NYC park, but there seem to be far fewer than there used to be.

  • Review 78 (2023-06-19 - Rating: 4)

Tompkins Square Park, formerly a place of riots which forced the park to close years ago. It’s cleaned up nicely with lots of benches to sit on to read, meditate or people watch. In warmer months there is live music. And if you get a chance, you can stop by Rays Candy across the street for some fried Oreos and other goodies. The park has a large playground, dirty bathrooms and many dogs. Also a place to picnic and free food for those who need it on Sunday afternoons.Parking on side streets, with some streets closed so you can enjoy walking and enjoying the Alphabet City neighborhood. A must visit.

  • Review 79 (2023-07-08 - Rating: 5)

We stumbled upon Tompkins Square Park while on a stroll in the East Village, and were pleasantly surprised by how much there is to do, from the couple of adjoining playgrounds that our kids played on, to the paths that connect to a dog park and the other grassy spaces. We even noticed a skateboard park on the northwest corner. The park is quite shady with all the trees, which also make for great cover during sudden summer rains.

Yeah , I spent time there today and I enjoyed myself to myself riding my bike all over the place . When I was over there there was this long line and come to find out that there was people giving out free food. I told them that they are doing a wonderful thing for the people in this park , and one of them said to me they give out food every week. They are always in the front entrance to the park .

A simple, cute park with separate child and dog areas.

  • Review 85 (2023-04-20 - Rating: 5)

Cute park with a skate park, picnic area, kids playground, workout zone, and more. Just watch out for the drug addicts. Nothing you can do about them though. Otherwise a great place to go hang out for a bit. You’ll find live music from street performers and more.

  • Review 86 (2022-12-28 - Rating: 5)

This park has something for everyone - three separate childrens playgrounds, two dog parks for small or regular dogs, performance areas, a few different lawns for relaxing, well-maintained plantings, a secluded section with a sprinkler area in summer, meant for young children and quiet seating. Also for picnics and celebrations! A seasonal swimming pool, skateboard area, handball court, exercise area, basketball courts - Im probably forgetting something too! Things to look for: the Temperance monument, the memorial to the Admiral Slocum ferry boat disaster, the great tree dedicated to the Maharishi who first brought meditation to the East Village, Miguels Mountain (barely a hillock now) and you might even see the red-tail Hawks, and dont forget the rats and squirrels!

  • Review 87 (2023-07-17 - Rating: 4)

One of the few parks in the area to be able to do calisthenics. We need more locations like this in the city. Handle bars can be a bit thicker than what you are used to but better than no bar.

  • Review 88 (2023-03-24 - Rating: 4)

A large and lovey park with various amenities such as a jungle gym, skate park, playground, and more. Benches align the expansive pathways adorned with towering trees that make for a great fall viewing. The park loses a star for the occasional litter- otherwise a great place to go for a walk or read a book.

Plenty of communal space for sports and other family-friendly activities. popular spot for your friendly neighborhood addicts and crust punks to run amok and potentially offer you some ware for coinif you like to accidentally overdose on a pot brownie and fall asleep on some bench on your day off, without the judgment of your fellow New Yorkers, then consider this park a safe space.Dont for a second worry about looking out of place, since youre always more likely to see about 3 junkies dozing off at any given time than you are to see a complete family with two married parents.stay great, nyc!

Loved this park today! My husband and I have been here several times but today we stumbled upon a live metal/rock band playing in the park. Mosh pit and all! I believe the band was called, “Guitar Army” - they played for a few hours but we caught them at the end of the show. It was still so much fun.

Love this park. I have been going here since I was a youngster. Its changed dramatically over the years in some ways and not at all in others. You are guaranteed to spot someone famous walking their dog or sitting on a bench reading a book. In Summer there is a kids pool, free movies on Fridays and free punk concerts on Saturday afternoons.Youll will often find a little Mexican man walking through the park selling Italian ices for a dollar, theres is also a few basketball courts, kids playground, a off leash dog park and loads of colourful locals.

It was drizzling a little but the area of the park where I was was tidy and not too noisy. The plants had varying stages of budding. There was a lot of squirrel activities. Most of them were digging for nuts. The pigeons and sparrows were out and about as well. It was a very calming visit.

Lined with iconic old apartments and some of the best restaurants in the city (including standout vegan food).

It is no secret that this park is a very well designed and nice to walk around and lounge it. That being said it attracts a lot of people and on a nice day will be considerably populated. The area around the park also has a rich night life and a variety of restraints. My first time there a band played some really good music. There are chess tables and plenty of seating as well as a ping pong table.

  • Review 112 (2023-08-06 - Rating: 4)

Not a big park. Skateboarders took over the ballfield. Still can be quite serene and tranquil. Has a nice grassy area where many ppl sunbathe. Has a dog park but yet ppl still (at times) unleash their dog and have them roam in areas outside the dog park. Overall its ok.

Went for a free concert in the park. Beautiful park on the lower east side. Had an amazing time. The weather was perfect and the park was packed. Couldnt of had a better time. Bands were off the hook. New York Hardcore in New York. They brought everything with them and left it on the stage. My thanks go out to Black and Blue Productions for putting on the show. You guys are awesome! Thanks to the bands for your hard work and dedication to the hardcore scene.

Great spot to hang during a sunny afternoon with all your friends in their carhartt pants. Benches are relatively comfy and plentiful. You’ll be sure to find a spot in sun or shade.

Solid NYC Park with a lot of life. You can tell how much the community loves this park. There are a variety of passive and active entertainment options available throughout. The City appears to have forgotten about this park and it has some dated elements and most of the grassy areas are off limits. Great place to take a break!

Tompkins Square Park is a great place to take a walk, sit quietly in the shade of trees or even take in small concerts by performing musicians. Lots of places on the outskirts to get snacks & drinks. Places to skateboard, play basketball, table tennis, and childrens playground. Also, a nice dog runs to take your loyal friend for some playtime and exercise.

I love coming here to watch the big dogs in the big dog run. Theres also a good energy to the park, not too over run with kids, not too many hipsters, just folks from lots of walks of life hanging out and socializing. Along those lines, I almost always find a few characters doing interesting things that give me stories for the next several days. In short, great dog and people watching.

I grew up in NYC (Brooklyn), so I remember all the controversy over Tompkins Square Park from the riots back in 1988. Power to the people! ✊When I moved into the neighborhood (East 12th St. & Avenue A) to live with my college boyfriend in 2000 when I was in grad school, I saw how much the neighborhood (& the park itself) had RADICALLY changed.Mainly due to the effects of gentrification, but that wasnt anything new to me, because Id seen the same thing happening in the neighborhood in Brooklyn Id grown up in (think upscale Bistros with parklets on Cortelyou Rd. in Flatbush) so that concept was NOTHING I hadnt seen before.Although I am MUCH MORE a fan of the West Village (aka: Greenwich Village proper) and Washington Square Park; I came to ❤️ the East Village/Tompkins Square Park in a way that I could have NEVER imagined. I adopted a beautiful rescue German Shepherd/Border Collie mix dog in the summer of 2002, and she ❤️d going to the park (we lived two blocks from Tompkins Square) and it was also an easy commute over to NYU/Steinhardt where I was doing my post-graduate/fellowship work.Carmelas ❤️ of the park inspired my own. When we left the neighborhood for San Francisco in 2004, our last stop was at Tompkins Square so she could run around in the dog run before we got on the road.

  • Review 141 (2018-04-22 - Rating: 4)

For a small park, (1 avenue long & 3 blocks wide) its nice. It has the standard amenities. Theres a childrens section with swings, a slide, etc. The dog run is divided into two sections for large & small canines. There are numerous grassy knolls with benches on the walkways and everywhere is clean. Theres even a ping pong table. However, to really feel like youve been transported outside of the city, you must go to Central Park. The landscape is not flat & when you look up you dont see buildings anymore.

Tomkins park is in many ways a melting pot of the village if not all of NYC. On any given day you can find folks from every walk of life socializing and taking in the riches if this city. There are often musicians artists and artisans sharing or selling theyre latest creations. There has been an increase in the use of the park as a safe haven administration of controlled substances so be aware especially in the evenings and in restrooms

  • Review 145 (2017-05-30 - Rating: 5)

Sometimes theres live music and little stands that sell plants, fruits, and other goodies. There are a couple childrens parks here. I particularly like the jungle gym by the basketball courts near avenue b where folks can go to get a good workout. Beautiful green space. Highly recommend even just for a stroll.

  • Review 148 (2016-09-24 - Rating: 4)

Dirty dark park with to much metal and fencing on the other hand there is something for everyone here: playground for the kids, a dog run for dog lovers, flat ground for skaters, sports enthusiasts and plenty of green space that makes you feel caged in, assuming its even open. But dont worry the park safe and a great escape from the city.

Better than it ever was. Entirely safe. One of the best dog runs in the city of thats your thing. Great facilities for kids but some of them are disastrously spilled and write unhappy. Dont enter or leave by the southwest entrance, where quite a few homeless sit, quite peaceably, true, unless you want a good chess challenge

I used to live around the blocks back in the days when it was scary. Now it looks peaceful with dog run and people of all ages hanging out. btw, a lot of scenes in the Netflix series “Russian Doll” starring Natasha Lyons were shot here inside and around the park.

  • Review 159 (2017-02-19 - Rating: 4)

The dog runs here are great. We bring our dog almost every weekend and there are always dogs of all different breeds and sizes. The park has two areas - one for small dogs and one for large dogs - we find it very helpful as our little guy sometimes gets intimidated by larger dogs. The only negative is that the ground in the dog runs is a clay-like substance thatll leave Fido in desperate need of a bath after playing, but totally worth it for the fun hell have.

Farmers market is smaller than Union Square, but good for a week of groceries (depending on what you like to eat).
